September 26 Reality Bites (or does it?)Ok, I admit it, I am a total freak when it comes to TV. I watch way to much tv, and I am pretty particular to make sure my shows are taped. But I also love Reality TV. which part of me hates the fact that I love it so much, while the other part of me doesn't really care, because it is fascinating. Some of my Favorites include:
Survivor: now a classic of reality shows. I really got into the 2nd season, and the last season, and I am already entralled with the new season. The addition of 2 former contestants (Bobby John and Stephanie) is a great twist to the game. What do I love about Survivor? Unlike many long-running reality shows, In the most basic of ways, the show has stayed true to the structure it started with. Every season has a few twists, but when you boil it down, it is still the same basic structure. It is the people that change it. It is pretty incredible to see people in that kind of situation. Survivor has always done a pretty good job of getting a good cross-section of people too. You always have at least one from almost every age group. though, in the last few seasons, they have started to slip into what i like to call the "beautiful people" casting. (an explanation follows later!)
The Real world: one of the first. probably the first if you really think about it. I have been a real world fan for a long time. I cannot seem to get into the Austin Season though. part of that might be because i am getting old! i hope not! I think MTV has fallen into the "beautiful people" casting. All of these young adults are gorgeous! because execs think people want to see beautiful people getting drunk and having sex. They don't want to see semi-beautiful people getting drunk and having sex. Which it makes me sad that the real world has turned into that (especially this season....goodness my! well, and of course the Vegas season, but i really like that one) I would like to see the Real world go a little bit more back to their roots.
The Girls Next Door: My new guilty pleasure show. I swore i wouldn't watch it, i told myself i wouldn't watch it, but one day, nothing on TV, and it sucked me in. For those of you who haven't seen it, it is about Hugh Hefner's girlfriends, and their life in the Playboy Mansion. Pretty self-explanatory. I wouldn't want to date an 80-yr old, much less one who has 2 other girlfriends, but it is fascinating none the less!
Of course, I am also a huge fan of the Amazing race, Project Runway (coming back this fall!), Starting Over, and any others I run across! Breaking Bonaduce and Intervention are fascinating too, a pretty shocking picture about addiction in this country.
So, do you have a favorite reality show? would there be one you would love to appear on? (For me, hook me up with Celebrity Fit club--i really think their next season should be a team of celebs against "real" people.)
Hope you all have a great Monday!
