11月13日 Through the eyes of a child-part oneI am so fortunate in my job to work with kids. I want to share some of those expirences with you, some wide spread, some isolated, of times where i got to look through the eyes of a child again during my time in ministry. I am going to attempt to make this a series, we will see how far i get!
Today, I did the children's sermon about how God blesses us with gifts and talents, and how God doesn't want us to hide those, but share them. So the first question I asked was what these kids were good at. I love how easily children can come up with things theya re good at. Music, art, school, gym, sports, and the list goes on and on. Kids love to tell you what they are good at. And they are good at a lot of things. They may not be Mozart, but they are a good piano player. They may not be Van Gogh, but they are great artists whose works hang on the kitchen gallery wall (the fridge.) At what point in our lives do we become unsure of our ablities? or give up passions and loves because we don't feel we are the best, or good enough? I know, if you asked an adult the same question, "what are you good at" we would ho and hum, kick our feet, and say, well, i am ok at _____ but not the best. We downplay our gifts the minute we vocalize them. What in our lives has caused us to do that? I know i do it all the time. and if someone tells me I am good at something, I downplay what they say instead of taking that compliment and running with it. We are hesitant to share our gifts. We hide our gifts in the dirt instead of investing them to double them. God blesses us when we share the gifts and talents He has given us. I know I am in a job where I use the gifts God has given me, but I know that I am often unsure of my ablities.
So here's your chance, what are you good at? seriously, celebrate it, don't downplay it, and write it in the comments. seriously. lets be like kids for once, and raise our hands high.
Me? I am good at listening. This is a skill I have had to work on (I like to talk) but it is something I am glad to say I can do well. I am also good at giving hugs, which everyone needs once and awhile.
